Wedding Photography: Don’t forget the groom

Brides, brides and more brides. Weddings tend to focus a lot on the beautiful, blushing brides. It can be easy to focus more on them with their elegant gowns and bright bouquets, but don’t forget the groom. It takes two to tango and a wedding isn’t complete without the man himself. When you’re planning for the bride’s portraits, remember to set time aside for the groom. Read on for more ideas about groom portraits.

Creating a Shot List – Before arriving at the wedding, you’ll have your “shot list.” Include on it several options for groom-focused images. Including….

  • The Waiting Shot – Find out where the groom is waiting before the ceremony and ask if you can come shoot him dressed in his suit, but in a more relaxed environment.
  • The Aisle Shot- Where the groom is alone at the end of the aisle, waiting for his bride to come.
  • Goofing around Shot – Look for the groom and his best man before the ceremony. Often, they are goofing around and providing you with some great smiles and lively expressions.
  • Garter Shot – Just like when the bride throws her bouquet, it is fun to capture the groom slinging the garter.
  • Mother/Son shots – If he does a mother/son dance, be there on the dance floor. If anything, mom will love photos of theĀ  precious moments of just her and her son on his big day.
